Jan,

Most of the research I've seen re: soy vs. whey protein tends to favor whey protein - at least in terms of the protein impact.

I've covered the relative merits of a variety of different proteins in a number of previous columns.

The health effects of soy has also been a topic of examination in recent months here. It's a controversial and interesting subject matter indeed.

Be well!

That looks like an excellent (and tasty) recipe, Dr. Axe. Thanks for sharing it!

"Hiding" veggies in shakes is a great strategy too. I've found that spinach is a really good candidate for that. Raw spinach is so mild tasting and has such a smooth consistency when blended up.

Be well!

Glad to see your mention of coconut milk-I use it almost every day! One of my favorite breakfast recipes is a Berry Smoothie. I take:

1/3 can coconut milk
1 c. frozen berries
1 scoop protein powder or 2 raw, cage free eggs
Cinnamon, Stevia and Vanilla to taste

I've also found blending in veggies like kale or red cabbage is a great way to pack my smoothie full of nutrients. You hardly notice the difference!

Thanks, Katschi!

I think your acceptance of a whole food diet is wonderful. It sounds like you've adapted to it in the best possible way. :)

I especially like your incorporation of herbs and spices. They're generally very health promoting and fantastic sources of antioxidants and more!

Be well!

I must be one of the lucky ones. I found that a change to whole foods revitalized my taste buds and has made the natural flavours in foods more appealing.
I use spices a bit more ... herbes de provence in my egg white omelettes or chicken dishes. cinnamon in my protein pumpkin smoothies, nutmeg with my protein banana shakes.
I also add more cocoa and vanilla in to my protein shakes as well.
I use real butter now as opposed to butter sprays and that gives me wonderful mouthfeel when I eat my veggies.
I've noticed a tremendous change in how sweet natural foods are since leaving behind sugar/sweeteners (for the most part ~ I still add 100% maple syrup to my oatmeal)
Some things are almost naturally too sweet to me now which is quite amazing since I was indeed a sugar addict.
A whole foods diet can be tremedously tasty and exciting to the tastebuds in my opinion. I'm so glad I was open for the change!
I did not know of all the benefits of whey so thank you very much for that information!
wonderful post as always.
