Tea Drinker of New,

Do you have any health food stores in your neighborhood? I typically look for organic varieties of green and white tea manufactured by reputable manufacturers such as Flora(Bija), Long Life (Country Life), Traditional Medicinals and Yogi Tea.

These same teas are available online via many food and supplement sites - sometimes at pretty substantial discounts.

Be well!

Can anyone recommend some high grade high quality natural green teas and maybe even white teas? I'm looking to get the best taste (no artificial flavors, I mean actual taste from just the tea leaves themselves) with the maximum nutritional benefits (I have heart disease, depression, among other fun issues). There's not much to choose from at grocery stores aside from say, Lipton and Bromley which proudly display that their bags are all natural green tea and contain 190mg of antioxidants per bag/serving. And as far as white tea, there is absolutely nothing on the shelf. There's a language barrier when going to chinese or japanese little shops so it's hard for me to consider that an option, plus their stuff doesn't exactly come with nutritional facts since it's all in random packaging.

Over the last few months I've gradually replaced coffee with organic green tea. I have a history of depression. While I was drinking the green tea all day, my moods were MUCH better and depression was a actually non-issue!!!
I just recently finished all the stock I had and until the next shipment arrived, I noticed that my mood was drastically different - very depressed.
I then wondered if the green tea had an effect on my moods.
I've now been reading articles all day about this positive effect.
I can definitely confirm this to be true, because I discovered this information AFTER noticing my own experiences with and without it.
Without a doubt, green tea has dramatically improved my moods.
I will now always have it in my kitchen and I will never leave home without it.

Good day, Nina. :)

I think you're probably right. Theanine is likely to be responsible for some/most of green tea's mood altering action. Though EGCG (and perhaps other phytochemicals) may contribute to the cause as well.

JP,

thanks for the news. I think its the l-theanine effect that fights the depressive symptoms. it works like an mood enhancer. i love the effect too, especially in dark could rainy days.

the website www.hibiki-an.com has a table in which the diffrent l-theanine amounts are named. the best way to consume a lot of the super relaxing l-theanine is to drink a really good cup of gyokuro or a high grade matcha. i read, that those anti-depression effect of l-theanine would also be good for women with pms.

Greetings,
Nina K.
